Nirmal Jit Singh Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon, PVC (17 July 1944 - 14 December 1971) was an officer of the Indian Air Force. In recognition of his only defense of the Srinagar Air Base against PAF's air strikes during the Indo-Pak war of 1971, he was posthumously awarded Param Vir Chakra, India's highest military decoration. Flying Officer Nirmal jit Singh Sekhon was born on July 17, 1943 in Roorka village of Ludhiana, Punjab. A few months after his marriage, Nirmal jit Singh dedicated himself to the country. On December 14, 1971, when six Pakistani sabar jets were attacked by Srinagar Airfield, Officer Nirmaljit Singh was deployed there with 18 net squadron while retaining the command of the security unit. Faced with bravery of enemy F-86 sabar jets, they demolished two Saabar jets. They continued to pursue enemies and release their sixes.
