Shivraj Ramsharan was born on 10 October 1923 in Madras city in India, he was married to Kausalya. Kausalya BS Srinivasa Shastri was the granddaughter of an Indian politician. He received his early education from Nagpur.         He received his BAC Honors degree from Nagpur University in 1943 and received the MSc degree in 1945. In 1948, he received an associate's degree in IISc and in 1949, a degree in DSC in Nagpur University. He received his PhD under CV Raman.
