Ramaiya is known for his studies on the physicochemical processes involved in sugarcane juice processing. Nanduri Achutha Ramaiya was born on 26 August 1923 in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. He received his master's degree from Banaras Hindu University. Further, he continued his PhD studies. His thesis was on the origin of triggering electrons for electrode discharge in electrode work ozone tubes.
