Biography of Vijayakanth:

Vijayakanth, whose full name is Vijayaraj Alagarswami, is an Indian actor, politician, and the founder of the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) party. Born on August 25, 1952, in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India, Vijayakanth is known for his contributions to the Tamil film industry and his subsequent entry into politics.

Film Career of Vijayakanth:

Vijayakanth made his acting debut in the Tamil film industry with the movie "Inikkum Ilamai" in 1979. He gained popularity for his versatile roles, portraying both action and romantic characters. Over the years, he acted in numerous successful films and earned the moniker "Captain" after playing a military officer in the film "Captain Prabhakaran" (1991).


His notable films include "Chatriyan" (1990), "Senthurapandi" (1993), and "Ramanaa" (2002). Vijayakanth's on-screen persona often featured a blend of action and social justice themes, contributing to his popularity among a wide audience.

Vijayakanth's Political Career:

Vijayakanth entered politics in 2005 by forming the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) party. The party aimed to address issues related to social justice, education, and the welfare of the people of Tamil Nadu. In the 2006 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections, DMDK won a significant number of seats, establishing itself as a political force in the state.


Over the years, Vijayakanth and the DMDK formed alliances with various political parties, including the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the People's Welfare Front. In the 2011 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections, DMDK aligned with the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and became part of the government, with Vijayakanth serving as the Leader of the Opposition.

Despite his initial success, DMDK faced challenges in subsequent elections. Vijayakanth contested in the 2016 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections and the 2019 Indian general elections but did not achieve significant electoral success.

Personal Life of Vijayakanth:

Vijayakanth is married to Premalatha Vijayakanth, and the couple has two sons, Vijay Prabhakar and Shanmuga Pandian. Apart from his political and film career, Vijayakanth is also known for his philanthropic activities.

Vijayakanth's journey from a successful actor to a prominent political figure reflects his commitment to social causes and his aspiration to contribute to the well-being of the people of Tamil Nadu.
