Vijay Dhul was born in New Delhi and was not even brought up in Delhi. In December 2021, Vijay was named the captain of the India team for the 2022 ICC Under-19 Cricket Cup in the West Indies. Vijay's 110 runs in the Super League semi-final match against Australia helped India reach the tournament. Vijay was taken on as the captain of the 20th International Cricket Council (ICC) team after the tournament ended.

Vijay played Under-19 cricket for Delhi. He also made his first-class debut against Tamil Nadu in the Ranji Trophy on 17 February 2022, with Vijay scoring centuries in both his innings during the match. Prior to making his senior debut, Vijay was bought by Delhi Capitals in the 2022 IPL auction ahead of the 2022 Indian Premier League. Vijay had finished the Ranji Trophy of 2020 and 21 as Delhi's highest run scorer i.e. he had scored the most runs in the Ranji Trophy of 2020-21. In which a total of 409 runs were scored at an average of 119.75. It also included Vijay's three centuries in which Vijay scored an unbeaten double century in the final against Chhattisgarh.
