Early Life and Education:
Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar was born on February 21, 1894, in Bhera, British India (now in Pakistan). He completed his education at Punjab University, where he obtained a Master's degree in Chemistry in 1919.

Career and Achievements of Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar:

After completing his education, Bhatnagar embarked on a distinguished career in scientific research. He went on to study at the University of London and earned a D.Sc. degree in 1921. Upon his return to India, he served as a professor at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and later at the University of Delhi.

 
One of his most significant contributions was the establishment of various scientific research institutions in India. In 1940, he founded the **Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)** and served as its first Director-General. Under his leadership, CSIR played a crucial role in promoting scientific research and industrial development in India.

Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar's Research and Impact:

Bhatnagar's research primarily focused on organic chemistry. He made noteworthy contributions to the understanding of emulsions, colloids, and industrial chemistry. His work had practical applications in various industries, including textiles, sugar, and chemicals.

In 1958, the Government of India instituted the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology, one of the highest scientific honors in the country, in his memory. He was also awarded the Padma Bhushan, India's third-highest civilian award, in 1954.

Tragically, Dr. Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar's life was cut short when he passed away on January 1, 1955.
