The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) is an autonomous organization under the Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE), Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India. ICAR serves as the apex body for coordinating, guiding, and managing research and education in agriculture and allied sectors in India. Its primary objectives include:


1. Promoting Agricultural Research: ICAR promotes agricultural research and development by funding research projects, establishing research institutes, and supporting scientists and researchers in various agricultural disciplines.



2. Education and Training: ICAR is involved in agricultural education and provides funding and guidelines to agricultural universities and institutions across India. It also conducts various training programs for agricultural professionals.

3. Technology Transfer: ICAR facilitates the transfer of agricultural technologies and innovations from research institutions to farmers. This includes improved crop varieties, agricultural practices, and animal husbandry techniques.

4. Crop Improvement: ICAR focuses on crop improvement programs, including the development of high-yielding and disease-resistant crop varieties through research and breeding.

5. Livestock and Fisheries Research: ICAR is involved in research related to livestock, fisheries, and allied agricultural sectors, contributing to the overall development of animal husbandry and fisheries in the country.
