Biography of  Virender Sehwag 

Virender Sehwag (born 20 October 1978) is a former Indian cricketer. Virender Sehwag, a right-handed opening batsman and right-handed off-spin bowler, was an aggressive cricketer. Sehwag has been compared with Sachin Tendulkar for most of his career. Behind which was his batting style and stature like Sachin. Sehwag himself admitted that many times he has tried to adopt Sachin's style of play.

Sehwag played the first ODI of his career in 1999 and became a part of the Indian team in 2001. In April 2009, Sehwag became the only Indian cricketer to be recognized for his performance in 2008 with the Wisden Leading Cricketer Award. Sehwag was also given this award in 2009 and thus became the first player to win this award for two years.

Sehwag was born to a grain merchant. His childhood was spent in a joint family. Sehwag has now settled in Delhi though he originally belongs to Haryana. His father Krishan and mother Krishna Sehwag have three more children. According to his father, Sehwag's interest in cricket is due to a bat given to him in his childhood which was given to him when he was just seven months old. His father tried to keep Sehwag away from cricket as Sehwag had broken a tooth while playing. But Sehwag continued to play with the help of his mother. Sehwag is a graduate from Jamia Millia Islamia.

Records of Virender Sehwag

Sehwag has many records in his name. Among these, the most runs (319) in Test cricket by an Indian is recorded in a match against South Africa. This triple century is the fastest three centuries in the international cricket world. Sehwag completed 300 runs in 278 balls. Apart from this, Sehwag's name is also the fastest 250 runs scored by any batsman. He completed 250 runs in 207 balls against Sri Lanka.

Sehwag's other innings of 309 and 293 runs are the best of any Indian at number two and third. Sehwag is one of only four players in the world to have scored more than 300 runs in a single innings of Test cricket twice. He is the only player to have scored two triple centuries and also took five wickets.

In March 2009, Sehwag scored the fastest century in the cricket world till that time in ODIs. This century was made in 60 balls. On 8 December 2011, Sehwag scored the only double century of his career against West Indies. With this double century, he became the only cricketer after Sachin Tendulkar to do so. His score of 219 runs in 149 balls was the highest score by a player till his era which was later broken by Rohit Sharma in November of 2014 by scoring 264 runs in 173 balls. Sehwag is one of only two players in the world to have scored a double century in ODIs and a triple century in Test cricket. Apart from him, the other player to do so is Chris Gayle.

Sehwag has been awarded the Arjuna Award in 2002. In 2008 and 2009, Sehwag was voted the best Wisden Leading Cricketer in the world. In 2010, Sehwag became the ICC Test Player of the Year. In 2010, he was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India.

Sehwag was made the vice-captain of the Indian team under the captaincy of Rahul Dravid in 2005, but due to his poor performance, VVS Laxman was replaced by this post in 2006. In January 2007, Sehwag was dropped from the Indian ODI team. He was later dropped from the Test team as well.

While the vice-captain of the Indian team, Sehwag also took over the captaincy of Team India for two ODIs and one Test match after the then captain Rahul Dravid was injured. After Sehwag's return to form in 2008 and Anil Kumble's retirement, Sehwag was again made the Indian team's vice-captain for Tests and ODIs. In early 2009, Sehwag was once again one of the finest cricketers of the Indian team.

Sehwag was the captain of Delhi Daredevils in the first two editions of the Indian Premier League. He then left this position to focus on teaching his batting style to Gautam Gambhir. In the fourth edition of the IPL, he again returned as the captain of Delhi Daredevils. Sehwag also remained the captain of the team for the fifth edition where he holds the record for scoring five consecutive half-centuries. He is the only player in the Twenty20 format to have done so.
