Diffraction of waves

Diffraction of the waves moving along the edges of the obstacles in their path is called diffraction. Diffraction is a special property of waves which is seen only in waves and not in particles.

Diffraction of light

When the light rays fall on a thin line or a sharp barrier, they are partially turned towards the edges of the line or barrier, this type of turn of light rays is called diffraction of light.

Required condition - For diffraction of light, the size of the barrier must be of the order of wavelength of light.

तरंगों के विवर्तन का क्या अर्थ है प्रकाश के विवर्तन से आप क्या समझते हैं?

तरंगों का विवर्तन

तरंगों का अपने मार्ग में आने वाले अवरोधों के किनारों पर मुड जाना विवर्तन कहलाता है विवर्तन तरंगों का एक विशिष्ट गुण है जो केवल तरंगों में देखने को मिलता है कणो में नहीं। 

प्रकाश का विवर्तन

जब प्रकाश किरण किसी पतले रेखा क्षेत्र अथवा किसी तीक्ष्ण अवरोध पर पड़ती है तो वे रेखा छिद्र अथवा अवरोध के किनारों की ओर आंशिक रूप से मुड़ जाती है प्रकाश की किरणों के इस प्रकार के मुड़ने की प्रक्रिया को प्रकाश का विवर्तन कहते हैं। 

आवश्यक शर्त - प्रकाश के विवर्तन के लिए अवरोध का आकार प्रकाश की तरंग दैर्ध की कोटि का होना चाहिए।
