Early life of Geeta Mukherjee:

Geeta Mukherjee was born on 8 January 1924 in Paschim Bangal. Mukherjee completed the Banker of Arts in Bengali Literature from Ashutosh College, Calcutta. She married Vishwanath Mukherjee on 8 November 1942. Ten couple also has a son. His name is Bhagwat Jajan.


Geeta Mukherjee died on 4 March 2000 due to a heart attack. She was 76 years old at the time of death. In his condolence message, the then Prime Minister of India, Atal Bihari Vajpayee said that Smt. Mukherjee had given an attitude of determination and dedication. She was a shining example of women's empowerment. Her life will remain an inspiration for future studies, especially for women.

Works of Geeta Mukherjee :

Geeta Mukherjee was an Indian politician and social activist. Panskura has been an MLA from Purwa four times from 1967 to 1977. She had been elected seven times from Panskura constituency since 1980 as the Speaker of the Parliament. In 2000, he was the Indian Communist Party CPI candidate in the Indian state of West Bengal.


Geeta Mukherjee has also been the Chairperson of the National Federation of Indian Women, the women's wing of the Communist Party of India. She led the demand for legislature for 1 / 3rd reservation for women in parliamentary elections in India. She was the secretary of Bengal Pranti Students Federation from 1947 to 1951.

Geeta Mukherjee was elected to the 7th Lok Sabha in 1980 and served during 1980-84: 1) Committee on Members Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes 2) Committee on Members of Public Undertakings 3) Committee on Comptroller Amendment Bill on Members Criminal Law 1980 |

Since 1981 she was a member of the National Executive Committee of the Communist Party of India. She was the Deputy Chairman of the National Commission on Women Labor, Women's Commission, National Children's Board Press Council and National Women's Federation and was also a member of the Secretariat of the Women's International Democratic Federation Berlin.
