Early Life of R. P. Paranjpe:

R. P. Paranjpe's full name was Sir Raghunath Purushottam Paranjape. He was the first Indian to achieve the prestigious title of Senior Wrangler at the University of Cambridge. RP Paranjpe was also the Administrator of the University and the Indian Ambassador. RP Paranjpe was born on 16 February 1876 in Murdo, a village in Dapoli in Ratnagiri, Maharashtra, India.


His Peeta's name was Purushottam Pant. He was a tenth Brahmin. Shakuntala Paranjpe is his daughter and Sai Paranjpe is his granddaughter. Both of them have received the Padma Bhushan Award.

Raghunath completed his early education from Maratha High School Bombay. In 1899, he graduated as a Senior Senior Wrangler from Fergusson College, Pune. In 1901, he was elected a Fellow of St. John's College.

Works of R. P. Paranjpe :

Radhunath worked as Professor of Mathematics at Ferguson College in 1902. In 1907 Radhunath became the first Librarian of the Indian Mathematical Society at Ferguson College. He worked there as a principal till 1926.

After this Raghunath Paranjpe served as the Chancellor of Bombay University. Raghunath took lime from Bombay Legislative Council in 1912. He represented the Bombay constituency. He was elected to the Council which remained unaltered by the Government of India Act 1919.

Raghunath worked as Education Minister till 1923 as part of Diyarki in Bombay Presidency. Raghunath worked as High Commissioner of India to Australia from 1944 to 1947, pre-independence India from British Raj.

Achievements of R. P. Paranjpe :

1) Radhunath Paranjpe was awarded the doctorate of science by the Calcutta University in 1921.
2) Raghunath was elected as the Education Minister.
3) In 1949, the founder of the Indian Revolutionary Society was in Chennai.
4) Acharya Atre has dedicated an entire chapter to Paranjpe in his autobiography for Wrangler Paranjape.
