Early Biography of Ila Ramesh Bhat:

        Ila Bhat was born on 7 September 1933 in Ahmedabad. His childhood was spent in Surat city where his father Sumat Bhat was a successful lawyer. Ma Vanlila Vyas was active in the women's movement. Ila Bhat's family members also participated in India's freedom struggle.

        His grandfather was involved in the Salt Satyagraha of Mahatma Gandhi and went to jail for it. In 1952, the MBT College of Ila Sutar was graduated in art. And then completed his law studies from Ahmedabad in 1954, where he was also given a gold medal for his work on Hindu law. During his graduation, Ila met a fearless student leader Ramesh Bhat.

        Ila Bhat married Ramesh Bhat in 1956, later the couple had two children, Ammay and Mihir. She currently lives in Ahmedabad, Gujarat with her family.

        Ella Ramesh Bhat is a renowned social worker of India. Who did important work towards social and economic development of women of India. In 1972, a women's trade association called Self Employed Women Association Service was established. More than 12 lakh women are its members. Similarly, in 1974, he founded Seva Operative Bank. Presently, he is also a director of the Central Board of the Reserve Bank of India.

        In 1971, the migrant women porters who pulled the market in Ahmedabad and carried the burden on their heads, sought help from Ila Bhat in search of a roof over their heads. Ila Bhat gave that all these women are forced to live on the open road and their wages are extremely low.

        He had taken up this topic in local newspapers. The cloth merchants, by publishing a counter-article, rejected all the allegations of Ila Bhat and claimed to give fair wages to the women kulisthas. 2) He has served as the chairman of SEWA Co-operative Bank of HomeNet, International Alliance of Street Vendors. And is formerly the director of WIEGO. She was also a trustee of the Rockefeller Foundation.
3) Ila Bhat was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 1985.
4) In 1986, Padma Bhushan was also awarded the civilian honor.
5) He was awarded the Ramon Magsaysay Award for Communal Leadership in 1977.
6) In 1984, he was awarded the Right Livelihood Award.
7) He was selected for 2010 Nivano Shanti Puraskar.
8) In November 2010, US Secretary of State Hillary Cliton honored Bhat with the Global Fairness Initiative Award for helping to bring more than one million poor women to India in a state of honor and independence.
