Lightning fall from the sky | my experiences

How does lightning fall from the sky?

Today we will know how electricity falls from the sky and how it is formed. Lightning is called thunderbolt or lightning strikes or lightning. Let us know about this interesting but frightening fact.

What is thunderclap?

  • Thunderclap is actually a very intense and heavy electric current in the atmosphere in which something moves towards the ground.
  • This flow of electricity takes place in those 10–12 km long clouds which are huge in size and have very high humidity.

How does lightning fall from the sky?

  • Lightning clouds are within a distance of 1-2 km from the ground, while their top is at a distance of 12-13 km.
  • Temperatures at the top of these clouds range from -35 to -45 ° C.
  • As the water vapor in these clouds goes up, it starts to condense due to the falling temperature. In this process, heat is produced which pushes the watercourses upwards.
  • When the water vapor reaches zero degree Celsius, its drops turn into small icy ravines. When they go up, their volume increases so much that these drops start falling on the earth.
  • In this process, there is a time when icy raves of small snow are going up and big raves are coming down.
  • In this movement, big and small raves start colliding, due to which electrons start to leave. Due to these electrons, the collision of the rava increases and more electrons are generated than before.
  • Eventually, the top layer of the cloud undergoes a positive charge, while the middle layer produces a negative charge.
  • The difference in electrical potential between two layers of the cloud varies from 1 billion to 10 billion volts. In a very short time, electric current of one million to one million ampere starts flowing between these two layers.
  • As a result of this electric current, severe heat is generated due to which the air column between the two layers of the cloud gets heated. This air column becomes red in this heat. When this air column spreads, there is a fierce thunder inside the cloud which is called thunder.

How does lightning reach the earth from a cloud?

Earth is a good conductor of electricity. Its charge is neutral. But compared to the middle layer of the cloud, the charge of the earth becomes positive. As a result, about 15-20% of this electricity runs towards the earth. This is called lightning.

The lightning of the cloud mostly falls on high objects like trees, towers or buildings. When this electricity is 80 to 100 meters above the earth, at that time it turns and falls on high objects. This is because air is the conductor of electricity and the electrons flowing through it start searching for better conductors and take a shorter route to reach the earth with positive charge.

Thunderclap prediction

  • When lightning runs towards the earth in a thunderclap and falls on someone, it can be predicted 30-40 minutes before that.
  • This prediction is possible based on the study and monitoring of the lightening in the clouds.
  • Due to timely information about the thunderclap, many lives can be saved.
