Jimmy Wells, Huntville (Alabama) is an American Internet entrepreneur and is the founder and promoter of Wikipedia. His full name is Jimmy Donnell Wells. His friends fondly call him Jimbo. He also used to write a blog on internet named as Jimmy Wales.
The young man from the United States taught in two universities, working in a financial institution before doing P.H.D., then became director of research in Chicago. In 1996, in partnership with two partners, Bomis established a financial resource providing organization, which provided initial financial support to the Open Knowledge Institute named Nupedia and its subsequent establishment Wikipedia.
Presently (nowadays) he works on the Board of Trustees of the Wikimedia Foundation. This foundation is a charitable organization that runs Wikipedia to no avail.

In 2004, Wells and collaborator Angela Beasley set up a for-profit Internet company called Wiki. He stepped down from his position as CEO in 2009.
Wales began advising the British government on a possible open access initiative in 2012. The goal of the project was to conduct government-funded research at no cost to taxpayers. In addition to his paid position, Wells serves on the advisory boards of several academic foundations and research centers.
