Hemingway was born in 1899 and grew up with a love for the outdoors. His passion for adventure led him to obtain a position as an ambulance driver in the Italian Army during World War I. Injured during his duties, he fell in love with a Red Cross nurse during his hospitalization. After facing the nurse's rejection, Hemingway faced a rocky love life, eventually getting married four times. Hemingway's very personal life is reflected in the subject matter of his writing.
