Introduction to Cinema:

After watching a silent film, "The Life of Christ," Phalke became inspired to create Indian films. He learned the basics of filmmaking, including cinematography and film processing, during his visit to London in 1912.

Dadasaheb Phalke directed and produced India's first full-length feature film, "Raja Harishchandra," in 1913. This silent film marked the beginning of the Indian film industry. But in the year 2006, the Bombay High Court directed the Film Festival Directorate to consider only uncensored films for this honor. This was challenged by the Film Festival Directorate in the Supreme Court and the decision of the Supreme Court was in favor of the Film Festival Directorate. The award for that year was announced in mid-2008 due to the delay in the court decision.

• The 2007 award was announced [1] in September 2009 and similarly the 2008 award was announced on 19 January 2010 and the 2009 award was announced on 9 September 2010.

• In this award, one million rupees cash, gold lotus and shawl are provided by the Government of India.

• 'Dadasaheb Phalke Award' of 2008, V.K. of Karnataka Murthy, who was the first cinematographer to receive this prestigious award.

• Dada Saheb Phalke Academy also awards three awards in the name of Dada Saheb Phalke, which are - Phalke Ratna Award, Phalke Kalpataru Award and Dada Saheb Phalke Academy Awards.
