Early Life and Education of Sundarlal Sharma:

Sundarlal Sharma was born on August 26, 1908, in Raipur, in present-day Chhattisgarh, India. He completed his education from Nagpur University, earning a degree in law.

Sundarlal Sharma's Role in the Independence Movement:

Sharma actively participated in the Indian freedom struggle against British colonial rule. He was associated with the Indian National Congress and worked closely with leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. He participated in various nonviolent movements, protests, and agitations organized by the Congress Party.

Post-Independence Contribution of Sundarlal Sharma:

After India gained independence in 1947, Sundarlal Sharma continued his work in social and political spheres. He became the Chief Minister of the state of Madhya Pradesh (which included the present-day state of Chhattisgarh) in 1952. Sharma played a crucial role in the integration of various princely states into the newly formed Indian Union.

During his tenure as the Chief Minister, Sharma focused on rural development, education, and social welfare. He initiated several schemes to uplift the agricultural community and improve living standards in rural areas.

In the last phase of the 19th century, the waves of political and cultural consciousness were rising in the country. Social reformers, thinkers and patriots played an important role in bringing new thinking and direction to society in this phase of change. Sundarlal Sharma in Chhattisgarh has done an unforgettable job of bringing the voice of social consciousness to the house-to-house. He left his ministry on the Yajna of independence and associated with the 'National Agricultural Movement', 'Bardhanashad', 'Tribal Movement', 'Swadeshi Movement' and freedom.

Pandit Sundarlal Sharma has worked tirelessly to remove stereotypedness, superstition, untouchability and corrupt practices in rural areas of Chhattisgarh. In his work, Mahatma Gandhi, praising his Harijnodari work, considered him as his guru in this work. In 1920 AD, 'Kandel Nehar Satyagraha' was successful in the leadership of Dhamtari under his leadership. Mahatma Gandhi came to Raipur for the first time on December 20, 1920, through his efforts.
