Basappa Danappa Jatti, commonly known as B. D. Jatti, was an Indian politician who served as the fifth Vice President of India from 1974 to 1979. He was born on September 10, 1913, in Savalgi, Karnataka, India.

Early Life and Education:

B. D. Jatti was born into a farming family. He pursued his education in Dharwad, Karnataka, and later attended Bombay University, earning his Bachelor of Arts degree. He then studied law and obtained his LL.B. degree.

B. D. Jatti's Political Career:

B. D. Jatti's political career began in the 1940s when he joined the Indian National Congress. He held various positions in state politics before being appointed as the Chief Minister of the Indian state of Mysore (now Karnataka) in 1958. He served as the Chief Minister until 1962.

Jatti later became a Member of Parliament and held several portfolios in the Union Cabinet, including Railways and Home Affairs. In 1974, he was elected as the Vice President of India, serving under President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed. He served in this capacity until 1979.

Later Life of B. D. Jatti:

After his tenure as Vice President, B. D. Jatti remained active in public life, engaging in social and educational activities. He was associated with various organizations working for the welfare of farmers and rural development.

Death :
