Anil Kumble, full name Anil Radhakrishna Kumble, is a former Indian cricketer and one of the greatest spin bowlers in the history of the sport. He was born on October 17, 1970, in Bangalore, Karnataka, India. Kumble is widely regarded for his remarkable cricketing career, marked by his exceptional spin bowling skills and his contributions to the Indian cricket team.

Early Life and Domestic Career:

Anil Kumble showed an early interest in cricket and began playing the sport at a young age. He made his first-class debut for Karnataka in 1989 and quickly gained recognition for his leg-spin bowling. He was known for his accuracy, bounce, and ability to extract turn from even unresponsive pitches.

Anil Kumble's International Cricket Career:

Kumble made his international debut for India in a Test match against England in Manchester in 1990. He was an integral part of the Indian cricket team for nearly two decades. Kumble's unique bowling style, which included a lethal googly and a faster one, made him one of the most challenging bowlers for batsmen around the world.

He holds the record for the most wickets taken by an Indian bowler in Test cricket, with 619 wickets in 132 matches. Kumble was also the second bowler in cricket history, after Jim Laker, to take all ten wickets in a Test innings. He achieved this remarkable feat against Pakistan in Delhi in 1999.

In One Day Internationals (ODIs), Kumble took 337 wickets in 271 matches. He played a vital role in limited-overs cricket as well, contributing significantly to India's successes.

Captaincy and Later Career of Anil Kumble:

Kumble had a brief stint as the captain of the Indian cricket team in Test matches. He led India in 14 Test matches and achieved notable victories during his captaincy tenure.

He announced his retirement from Test cricket in 2008 after India's home series against Australia. Kumble retired as India's highest wicket-taker in Test cricket.

Post-Retirement and Contributions:

After retiring from professional cricket, Kumble remained involved in the sport. He served as the president of the Karnataka State Cricket Association and was later appointed as the head coach of the Indian cricket team in 2016. Under his coaching, India achieved significant successes, including a historic Test series win in Australia in 2018-2019.

Anil Kumble is married to Chethana Kumble, and they have a son named Mayas and a daughter named Svasti.
