Anugrah Narayan Sinha was born in the Saraiya village of Arrah in Bihar, British India (now in Bhojpur district, Bihar). He studied law at the Presidency College in Kolkata (Calcutta) and later went to England to study at the University of Oxford.

Anugrah Narayan Sinha's role in Indian Independence Movement:

Sinha actively participated in the Indian independence movement against British colonial rule. He was a prominent member of the Non-Cooperation Movement led by Mahatma Gandhi and was arrested several times for his involvement in the freedom struggle.

He became the first Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister of Bihar and served from 1946 to 1957.
