Anugrah Narayan Sinha was born in the Saraiya village of Arrah in Bihar, British India (now in Bhojpur district, Bihar). He studied law at the Presidency College in Kolkata (Calcutta) and later went to England to study at the University of Oxford.

Anugrah Narayan Sinha's role in Indian Independence Movement:

Sinha actively participated in the Indian independence movement against British colonial rule. He was a prominent member of the Non-Cooperation Movement led by Mahatma Gandhi and was arrested several times for his involvement in the freedom struggle.

After India gained independence in 1947, Anugrah Narayan Sinha played a crucial role in the formation of the state of Bihar. He became the first Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister of Bihar and served from 1946 to 1957. Sinha's contributions to Bihar's development were significant. He played a vital role in the establishment of the Bihar School of Engineering (now National Institute of Technology, Patna) and the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Patna.
