Windows Start Menu

The most important part of the task bar is the Windows Start Button, which is located at the bottom left corner. When pressing the Start Button, the menu open which is called is called Start Menu. Its textures and looks depend on Windows Version and Manufacturers.

The Start Menu is used by the user to perform the following tasks.
  • Programs, Applications to Start.
  • To open more commonly used Folders, Files, Programs.
  • To Adjust Computer Settings
  • To turn off the computer.
  • To change Log Off and User Account from Windows.
  • To get help from Windows OS
Click Start Button to start the Start Menu or press the Windows key from the key-board. You will open the Start Button Menu in front of you.

The top menu that you are looking at is the Start Menu of Windows 7. Similar types of manual are found in other versions of windows. The Start Menu has three major parts.
  1. Left Pane
  2. Search Box
  3. Right Box

1. Right Pane

Left Pane is the first part of the Start Menu. This pane contains a list of Computer Programs. According to the manufacturers, some may be different.

At the beginning, there are few programs in this list. But, after a few days, the list increases. This happens for two reasons. First, installing new programs by the user, and secondly, the programs that are being used by the user in addition to Windows also add Windows to this list.

2. Search Box

Search Box is just below the left part of the Start Menu. It is used to search programs and files located in Computer.

You can search all items in the Search Box Computer that includes Programs, Files, Folders, Personal Folders (Documents, Picters, Desktop), E-mails, Contacts, etc.

3. Left Pane

The right side of the Start Menu is called Right Pane. Computer Settings, Features, Files and Folders That Are Used to be Accessed by Right Pane This means that Windows Parts can be easily accessed from here.

The links in the right pane are being described below.

  1. Personal Folder - This is the first part and the name of the user account is the name of this folder. This folder contains User-specific data.
  2. Documents - This link opens the Documents Folder. Which contains Store files such as Text Files, Word Files, Excel Sheets, Presentations etc.
  3. Pictures - These open the Pictures folder. In which pictures and graphics files are saved and can be done.
  4. Music - Audio files and other music files are saved here.
  5. Games - Installed Games in Computer can be accessed by this folder.
  6. Computer - This folder is important. This folder can access computers connected to Hardwares such as Hard Disk Drives, Cameras, Printers, etc.
  7. Control Panel - Computer's Appearance and Functionality can be customized by this folder. And new programs can be installed in computers and unused programs can be uninstalled.
  8. Devices and Drivers - From here you can find information about Installed Devices like Mouse, Keyboard, Scanners etc. in Computer.
  9. Default Programs - From here to Settings, you can set the settings of the Default Programs.
  10. Help and Support - Help about Windows and Computer can be obtained here. Those who exist both online and offline

3.1 Shut Down Button

The Shut Down Button is located at the bottom of the right pane. This causes the computer to shut down. Clicking on the next arrow opens some more buttons. Includes Switch User, Log Off, Lock, Restart, Sleep, Hibernate, etc.

Opening Computer Programs

We can open our mind-set programs, folders, or other items in the computer in two ways.

  1. By Program List
  2. By Search Box

1. Opening the Program List

This is the first and easiest way to open any program. By following these steps, you can open the program in the computer.
  1. First click on Start Button to open Start Menu.
  2. When you open the Start menu, see the name of your program in the left pane. If so, click on it. This program will open
  3. If there are no names in the list, then click All Programs to open all programs and folders in your computer. From here you can find out the name of your program in the list and open it.

2. Open the program through the Search Box

  1. Click on Start Button to open the Start Menu. And the program that you want to open. Start typing his name.
  2. As soon as you start typing All the items (Programs, Files, Folders, Musics, Web History) related to that Word, Text will appear in the Left Pane in front of you.
  3. Once your program is in Search Result, click on it and open it.
