What is Computer ROM?

Computer ROM - The full name of the ROM is Read Only Memory. That is, its data can only be read. It can not contain new data. Because it is given by writing only once by Manufactures.

Computer ROM

Instructions related to Computer Functionality are stored in the ROM. Including the computer running. This is called 'Booting'. Apart from computers, Washing Machines, Microwave Ovans and other electronic devices are also programmed by ROM.

ROM is a non-volatile memory. That means store data is always available in it. Even if the power off is not lost, the data is not deleted. This is also the primary memory of the computer.

ROM Features

1. ROMs are a permanent memory.
2. Basic Functionality instructions are stored in the store.
3. Only readable.
4. Are cheaper than RAM.
5. CPU is part of the memory.

Different Types of ROMs 

1. MROM
2. PROM
3. EPROM
4. EEPROM

1. MROM

MOM's full name is Mask Read Only Memory. It is programmed only in the device by Manufactures. MROM provides the ability to store more data in cheaper and less space than other ROMs. This means that the Data Store density is high.

2. PROM

The full name of PROM is Programmable Read Only Memory. Data in this memory chip is once written. Which always remains intact.
Special instruments are used to write data in PROM. They are also called PROM Programmer or PROM Burner. And the process of writing Data in PROM is called PROM Burning.

3. EPROM

Its full name is Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory. As it is clear by its name. The data available in this ROM can also be erased. Ultra-Violet Light is used to erase the data.

4. EEPROM

The full name of EEPROM is Electrically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory. Whose data can be erased by an electric Charge. It is slightly slower than other ROMs.
