Computer Data and Information - In this Lesson we will give full information about computer data and information. Because often data and information are considered as one and use as a synonym for each other. Therefore, reading this lesson will also reveal the differences in data and information. To facilitate the study, this lesson is available in the following parts.

Table of Content

What is Data?

Facts and information about something is called 'data'. This information includes numbers, words, pictures, symbols, opinions, etc. This fact is beyond meaningless and without the understanding of the common man. The data is gathered from different sources.

Data is then processed through various means and new data (meaningful data) is created. The wrong computer is an electronic machine. Therefore, the process of computer processing of data is called EDP i.e. Electronic Data Processing.

There is a data number for computer that is a group of bytes. Which is represented in Binary Digits (0 and 1). It goes into the CPU for data processing. Where it is created by the Logical Operations and New Data (Output).

Example of Data

What is Information?

Information is called information in English. Information contains meaningful information about something. Which the common man can understand. As the average age of students in a class is an information which is useful.

In computers, when instructions are given to do any work, this data is processed and meaningful results are given which the information is called.

We have just given the example of the information above that we have just written the correct answer given in the data. This is the address of a person. From this example it is clear how much difference between data and information is. And how are they different even though they are equal?

Differences in Data and Information

Data contains meaningless and unprocessed information. But, information is meaningful and processed information.
A common person can not understand the data, but the information is understandable to a common human being.
Data is less useful, but the information is always useful.
Data is self-reliant but information is dependent on data.
There is no definite form of data. At the same time the information is found in a special way.

What have you learned?

In this lesson we have given you complete information about the data and information. What is your data and what is the information? Both have to be known about and have understood the difference between these two information. We hope this lesson will prove useful to you.
