Ravi Shastri, full name Ravishankar Jayadritha Shastri, is a former Indian cricketer and a renowned cricket commentator. He was born on May 27, 1962, in Bombay (now Mumbai), Maharashtra, India. Shastri was an all-rounder known for his aggressive batting and useful bowling in international cricket during the 1980s and early 1990s.

Cricket Career:

Ravi Shastri made his debut for the Indian cricket team in 1981 in both Test and One Day International (ODI) formats. He played 80 Test matches, scoring 3,830 runs and taking 151 wickets. In ODIs, he scored 3,108 runs and took 129 wickets in 150 matches. He was part of the Indian team that won the World Championship of Cricket in Australia in 1985, where he was named the Player of the Tournament. Shastri was also known for his remarkable performances in Test cricket, including being the first Indian to score a double century at Lord's in 1990.

Ravi Shastri's Post-Playing Career:

After retiring from international cricket in 1992, Ravi Shastri transitioned into coaching and commentary. He has served as a cricket commentator for various television networks and has become one of the most recognizable voices in cricket broadcasting. He has provided commentary for major cricket events, including the Indian Premier League (IPL) and international matches.

Coaching Roles:

Shastri has had several coaching roles in Indian cricket. He served as the Cricket Manager of the Indian team during the 2007 tour of Bangladesh. He was also appointed as the Director of the Indian cricket team for the ODI series against England in 2014, where India performed exceptionally well. From 2017 to 2021, Shastri was the head coach of the Indian cricket team, leading the team to significant victories, including historic Test series wins in Australia.
