Abdul Hameed was born on July 1, 1933 in a poor Muslim family in the small village Dharampur, located in Ghazipur district of Uttar Pradesh. And his father's name was Mohammad Usman. There was a work of sewing clothes to run the family's livelihood here.

Abdul Hameed's Childhood 

Abdul Hameed had to become a desire soldier since childhood. He used to say to his grandmother that "I will be recruited in the army" when the grandmother says- "father's tailoring machine" Then he used to say, "We are in the army of the people. Toh rokale na rukab hum, samudoo"

On the night of 8th-September-965, when Pakistan attacked India, the Indian Army's troops stood up to fight for the attack. Veer Abdul Hamid was stationed in the front line of the army in the Khemraman sector of Tarn Taran district of Punjab. Pakistan attacked the "Assam Utark" village of "Khem Karan" sector, with the "American Patton Tanks" considered unbeatable at that time.

Indian soldiers neither had tanks nor big weapons but they had the courage to die while fighting for the protection of Mother India. Veer Abdul Hameed, while sitting in his jeep, started to sharpen one by one with his gun on the weak part of the Patton tanks. Seeing them doing this, the other soldiers too encouraged and soon saw a panic in the Pakistan army. Veer Abdul Hamid had destroyed seven Pakistani Patton tanks from his "gun-mounted jeep".

Army recruitment to Abdul Hameed

On January 28, 2000, an illustrated postage stamp of Rs. 3 was released by the Indian Postal Department in honor of the gallantry awardees in the set of five postage stamps. The drawing of Veer Abdul Hamid, riding on a jeep while shooting with a vacant rifle on this stamp, remains like an illustration. Fourth Grenadiers constructed a tomb in his memory in memory of Abdul Hamid. The fair is organized every year on their martyrdom day.
