History of Udayagiri Fort

The history of this city starts from the 14th century. This Uyagiri fort, built by Lagula Gajapati, was completely safe.

No one could come easily at Udaygiri Fort. It was possible to go within the Udayagiri Fort from the east and the jungles and in the west on the way. To achieve this fort, Krishna Deva Rai fought for 18 months and defeated Gajapati's Prataparudra in the war.

During the reign of Gajapati and Vijayanagara the fort was built to make the fort even bigger. The entire city and its surrounding 1000 feet hill were festooned with walls from all sides.
History of Udayagiri Fort

In this fort there were your buildings, eight of which were on the hill and the rest of the five buildings were in the lower part. There were also many beautiful temples and gardens in this fort.

After the conquest of Vijayanagar's empire, it went into the hands of Golconda's chief. There is a mosque on top of the hill, which has two Persian inscriptions from which it is revealed that Sheikh Mosque was constructed by Sheikh Hussain, he was the head of Sultan Abdullah of Golconda.

After that it went under the control of the Nawab of Arcot. He gave the title of the jagir to Mustafa Ali Khan. By 1839, this fort was in control of his descendants, but due to their treason, Nawab had fired them and sent them to Chengalpet.

This place is very important in history. The river which was all around this city, it has disappeared almost today, but some of these walls are still seen in the western hills.

There were total buildings in this fort, which were on the eight hills, and the other was below the five hillside. In these walls, the remains of many old temples, palaces and tombs are found in the inner part.

It was not easy for anyone to reach the part because of the high elevation of the hill, the hill of Q was about 1000 feet high and soldiers were deployed on every way to reach the fort.

There are also Chinna Masjid and Pedda Masjid in this fort. The 18th Century, a great Sufi saint, Rahmatullah Naib Rasool, took Samadhi at this place. The festival of Sandal is celebrated on the 26th day of Yehapar Rabi ul Aval month every year.
