Historical Significance:

The Hauz Khas Complex was originally built by Sultan Alauddin Khalji in the 13th century as a water reservoir (hauz) to supply water to the nearby Siri Fort. During the reign of Firoz Shah Tughlaq in the 14th century, the reservoir was deepened and expanded. The complex around the reservoir served as a learning center and included a madrasa (Islamic seminary), a mosque, and a tomb for Firoz Shah Tughlaq himself.
