Early life of Padma Lakshmi:

        Padma Parvati Lakshmi Vaidyanathan was born in Madras (now Chennai), India. His mother, Vijaya, is a retired oncologist. His father is a retired executive with pharmaceutical company Pfizer. He belongs to the Tamil Brahmin community. Lakshmi went on a shuttle between her grandfather in Chennai and her mother in New York. She was sexually harassed as a little girl.

        Writer Salman Rushdie was officially announced on 14 February 2004, 15th anniversary of the notorious fatwa issued against Rushdie for writing the novel "The Satanic Verses" by Islamic Radicals.
