Mammootty's entry into the film industry happened in the late 1970s. His debut film was "Anubhavangal Paalichakal" in 1971, but it was the film "Mela" in 1980 that brought him recognition. He gained widespread fame with his roles in movies like "Ahimsa" (1981) and "New Year" (1989).
