What to do before my interview?

Preparing thoroughly for an interview is essential to make a positive impression and increase your chances of success.

Here's a step-by-step guide on what to do before your interview:

1. Research the Company:

Learn about the company's history, mission, values, products/services, culture, and recent news. Understand their competitors and position in the industry.

2. Understand the Job Role:

Familiarize yourself with the job description and requirements. Identify key skills and qualifications they are looking for.

3. Prepare Your Answers:

Anticipate common interview questions (e.g., strengths, weaknesses, achievements, challenges) and prepare thoughtful, concise responses.
Use the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result) to structure your answers for behavioral questions.

4. Prepare Questions:

Prepare intelligent questions to ask the interviewer about the company, team, or role. This shows your genuine interest.

5. Dress Appropriately:

Choose professional attire that aligns with the company culture. When in doubt, it's better to be slightly overdressed than underdressed.

6. Plan Your Journey:

Know the interview location and plan your route in advance. Consider traffic, public transportation, or parking options.

7. Gather Documents:

Prepare multiple copies of your resume, cover letter, references, and any relevant certifications or portfolios.
Have a notepad and pen for taking notes during the interview.

8. Practice Good Body Language:

Practice confident body language, such as a firm handshake, good posture, and eye contact.
Practice active listening skills, nodding to show understanding, and responding appropriately.

9. Mock Interviews:

Conduct mock interviews with a friend, family member, or career counselor. This helps you practice answering questions and receive feedback.

10. Review Your Resume:

Be ready to discuss any details on your resume, including your work experience, skills, and achievements.

11. Prepare for Technical Assessments or Tests:

If your role involves technical skills, be prepared for tests or assessments. Practice coding exercises or other technical tasks relevant to the job.

12. Manage Your Online Presence:

Ensure your social media profiles are professional. Employers often check candidates' online presence.
Google your name to see what information comes up and manage any potential red flags.

13. Get a Good Night’s Sleep:

Ensure you get enough rest the night before the interview. Being well-rested improves your focus and alertness.

14. Plan Your Meals:

Eat a balanced meal before the interview to avoid feeling hungry or low on energy.

15. Stay Calm and Positive:

Practice relaxation techniques like deep breathing or meditation to manage pre-interview nerves.
Visualize yourself succeeding and approach the interview with a positive attitude.

16. Arrive Early:

Aim to arrive at least 10-15 minutes early for the interview. This shows punctuality and gives you time to relax and collect your thoughts.

17. Silence Your Phone:

Turn off your phone or switch it to silent mode to avoid distractions during the interview.

By thoroughly preparing and considering these points before your interview, you'll feel more confident and ready to present your best self to the prospective employer. Good luck!
