Bekal is a small town peacefully situated on the coastal banks of the Arabian Sea. It is within the village of Pallikare which comes under Kasargod district in Kerala. The name Baikal is derived from 'Baliakulam' which means big palace. According to local myths, a palace was located here in the past. If you visit here during the early months of the year, you can participate in the "Theyyam Demonstration". Bekal Fort has archaeological and historical significance. It is one of the big forts and has been protected by the Archaeological Department of the Government of India.
This fort has its own glow due to the mesmerizing beauty of the vast sea around this fort. Inside the Bekal Fort is the Yatri Bungalow which has been protected by the PWD Department of the Government of Kerala. A temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman and an old mosque established by Tipu Sultan are other attractions here. The presence of a dozen forts in Bekal is an example of historical importance here.
