National Village Swaraj Abhiyan
Government of India periodically launches various campaigns and schemes aimed at rural development, empowering villages, and promoting self-governance at the grassroots level.
One notable initiative related to rural empowerment is the National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM), also known as Aajeevika. NRLM is a poverty alleviation project implemented by the Ministry of Rural Development. It focuses on organizing rural poor women into self-help groups (SHGs) and federating them into higher-level institutions, enabling them to take charge of their own development initiatives.
Another important program is the Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP), which empowers Gram Panchayats (village councils) to plan and implement their development schemes according to local priorities. GPDP is an essential component of the decentralized planning process in rural areas.
