In November 1962, the pass came under attack by the Chinese forces. Despite being heavily outnumbered and facing adverse weather conditions, Major Dhan Singh Thapa and his men bravely defended their position.

On November 18, 1962, the Battle of Rezang La took place. Major Thapa and his troops displayed exceptional valor and determination in the face of overwhelming odds.
