What is the difference between electromagnetic waves and mechanical waves?

1. Medium is not required for transmission of electromagnetic waves whereas medium is required for transmission of mechanical waves.

2. Electromagnetic waves are only transverse waves while mechanical waves are both transverse and longitudinal.

3.The velocity of electromagnetic waves is equal to the velocity of light whereas the velocity of internal waves varies in different mediums.

4.Electromagnetic waves show thermal effect whereas mechanical waves do not show thermal effect.
