To understand the phenomena of interfering and diffraction, the wave theory of light and photon theory of light is necessary to understand the phenomena of light and electrical effects, the crumpling effect, that is, both particulate and wave properties are present in light. It behaves similarly and behaves like a wave in some events. This nature of light is called dual nature.

व्यतिकरण और विवर्तन आदि घटनाओं को समझने के लिए प्रकाश की तरंग सिद्धांत तथा प्रकाश विद्युत प्रभाव क्रम्पटन प्रभाव आदि घटनाओं को समझने के लिए प्रकाश का फोटॉन सिद्धांत आवश्यक है अर्थात प्रकाश में कणिक तथा तरंग दोनों गुण विद्यमान रहते हैं इस प्रकार की कुछ घटनाओं में प्रकाश कणों समान व्यवहार करता है तथा कुछ घटनाओं में तरंग के समान व्यवहार करता है प्रकाश की यह प्रकृति द्वैती प्रकृति कहलाती है।
