What is the effect of Doppler in sound? Under what circumstances does this apply?

Doppler effect in sound

Due to the relative motion of the sound source and the listener, the virtual change in the frequency of the sound listener is called the Doppler effect and this effect is called the principle of Doppler. This theory only tells about the frequency change of sound, nothing about the change of sound. If the velocity of the sound source or listener is greater than the velocity of sound, then the Doppler effect does not apply.

ध्वनि में डॉप्लर का प्रभाव 

ध्वनि श्रोत तथा श्रोता की सापेक्ष गति के करण, ध्वनि श्रोता की आवृत्ति में होने वाले आभासी परिवर्तन को डॉप्लर प्रभाव तथा इस प्रभाव को डॉप्लर का सिद्धान्त कहते है।  यह सिद्धान्त केवल ध्वनि के आवृत्ति परिवर्तन को बताता है, ध्वनि के तीब्रता  परिवर्तन के बारे में कुछ नहीं बताता।  यदि ध्वनि श्रोत अथवा श्रोता का वेग,  ध्वनि के वेग से अधिक है तो डॉप्लर प्रभाव लागू नहीं होता।
