Know 10 special things about Mahakal Jyotirling in Ujjain
If you are going to visit Baba Mahakaleshwar, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas built in the 6th century BC, located near the Punya Salila Shipra beach in Ujjain, the pilgrimage city of Madhya Pradesh, then you must know some important 10 things.
1. Bhasma Aarti:Bhasma Aarti is performed daily in the morning of Mahakal, the Kaal of Kaal. The specialty of this aarti is that Lord Mahakal is adorned with the ashes of fresh dead bodies. Booking is done in advance to attend this aarti.
2. Juna Mahakal: After visiting Mahakal, one should definitely visit Juna Mahakal. It is situated in the Mahakal courtyard itself.
3. Three Mahakals are present in Ujjain: There are three and a half times sitting in Ujjain- Mahakal, Kalabhairav, Gadhkalika and Ardha Kaal Bhairav. If you have seen Mahakal Baba and Juna Mahakal Baba, then definitely visit here too.
4. Most special among the 12 Jyotirlingas: Mahakal is the only best Shivling among the 12 Jyotirlingas. It is said that 'Aakase Tarakam Lingam Patale Hatkeshwaram'. Bhoolke cha mahakalo lindgatray namostu te.. That is, Tarak Shivling in the sky, Hatkeshwar Shivling in Hades and Mahakaleshwar on earth is the only valid Shivling.
5. Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga has three parts: The present Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga is divided into 3 sections. Mahakaleshwar is situated in the lower section, Omkareshwar in the middle section and Shri Nagchandreshwar temple in the upper section. Nagchandreshwar Shivling is allowed to be visited once in a year only on the day of Nagpanchami.
6. View of the sanctum sanctorum: In the sanctum sanctorum, there is a huge south-facing Shivling of Lord Mahakaleshwar, who is enthroned. Along with this, there are attractive idols of Goddess Parvati, Lord Ganesha and Kartikeya in the sanctum sanctorum. Nandi lamp is installed in the sanctum sanctorum, which is always lit. In front of the sanctum sanctorum, the idol of Nandi is enshrined in the huge chamber.
7. King of Ujjain: There is only one king of Ujjain and that is Mahakal Baba. Since the rule of Vikramaditya, no king can stay here at night. Whoever has done this audacity, he was killed in trouble. If you are a minister or a king, don't stay the night here. Even at present no king, chief minister and prime minister etc. can stay the night here.
8. Mahakal ride: King Mahakal Baba of Ujjain visits the city every Monday in the month of Shravan and sees his subjects. They do not get involved in the ride of Mahakal by taking any kind of intoxicant. On the day of Mahashivratri, the whole city becomes Shivamay. Only the hum of Shiva can be heard all around. The whole city becomes a baraati and participates in Shiv Vivah.
9. Why it is called Mahakal: Kaal has two meanings - one is time and the other is death. Mahakal is called 'Mahakal' because in ancient times the standard time of the whole world was determined from here, hence the name of this Jyotirlinga is 'Mahakaleshwar'. Although the relation of saying Mahakal is also associated with mythological belief.
10. Mythology of Mahakal: According to the legend, the establishment of this Shivling is associated with the story of King Chandrasen and Gopa Balak form. The relation of Hanumanji is also associated with the story.
