He comes from a family with a strong connection to the entertainment industry; his father is the legendary actor Kirk Douglas, and his mother is actress Diana Dill. Michael Douglas attended the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he studied drama.

Douglas began his acting career in the late 1960s, initially in television and on stage. He gained attention with his performance in the television series "The Streets of San Francisco," which ran from 1972 to 1976. His work on the show earned him three Emmy Award nominations.


In the 1980s, Michael Douglas achieved significant success in Hollywood and became one of the most bankable stars in the industry. One of his breakthrough roles was in the film "Romancing the Stone" (1984), a romantic adventure comedy. He went on to win the Academy Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of Gordon Gekko in Oliver Stone's "Wall Street" (1987). The character Gekko's famous line, "Greed, for lack of a better word, is good," became iconic.


Michael Douglas continued his success with a string of notable films, including "Fatal Attraction" (1987), "The War of the Roses" (1989), and "Basic Instinct" (1992). In 1992, he won a Golden Globe for his role in the film "The Streets of Laredo." In his personal life, Douglas has faced health challenges, including a public battle with throat cancer in the late 2000s, which he successfully overcame. He has been married twice; his first wife was Diandra Luker, and he later married actress Catherine Zeta-Jones.
