Khandekar wrote sixteen novels, six plays, around 250 short stories, 50 allegorical stories, 100 essays, and over 200 critiques. His notable works include Yayati, Kraunchwadh, Ulka, Hrudayāchi Hāk, Kānchan Mruga, Don Mane, Hirwā Chāphā, Don Dhruwa, Rikāmā Dewhārā, Pahile Prem, Jalalelā Mohar, and many more. He was also honored with the Padma Bhushan (1968), Sahitya Akademi Fellowship (1970), and the Soviet Land Nehru Award.
