Torna Fort

Torna fort, also known as Pranchandgad, is a big fort located in the Pune district of Maharashtra state. Historically important, because in 1643 Shivaji Maharaj was the first to become the center of the Maratha Empire at the age of 16. The height of 1,403 m above the sea level in the hill, making it the most mountainous fort in the district.

It is believed that this fort was built in the 13th century by the follower of Hindu Lord Shiva, Shaiva Panth. There is a Menghai Devi temple near the entrance of the fort, which is called the Ternaji Temple. In 1663, at the age of 16, Shivaji Maharaj captured this fort, thus making it the first fort, one of the forts of the Maratha empire Has been made.

1) Bini door:
The spectacular aerial view of the surrounding area is the main attraction of Bini Door. If you are coming from village Wella, which is situated in the foothills of Qila Bini Door, it is the main gateway for you.

2) Hanuman Bansian:
In the eastern part of Kothi Darwaja, there is a strong stronghold called Hanuman Garh. Here the idol of Lord Hanuman will attract your attention.

3) Kothi door:
The road to Bini Door takes you to Kothi Darwaja. From here, you can head towards Tadnaji temple. You are seeing the beautiful idols of goddess Somajai and Goddess Tornejaji in this temple.

4) Matthi Machi:
Another attraction on Torna Fort is the Budla Machi. If seen carefully, the structure of this machi looks like an owl. The path of Sanjeevchi Machi goes through Alu Darwaza.

5) BHEL stronghold:
A little ahead of the Torna stronghold, you reach the Bheel fort. The famous Zujar Maachi is located in the eastern part of the Bhel Gadh.

How to reach Torna Fort?

From buses to Swargate bus stand from Pune, bus starts from 6:30 in the morning. The related route goes through the villages of Shivapur, Cheladi / Nasrpur / Baneshwar, then from Venera, Welhe village. The main route to Torna starts here.

With some caution in the rainy season, the way to the top is difficult to medium. This is a two-three-three-hour climb for the main entrance of the fort, "Binni Darwaja".
