Triode

What is Triode?

1) It is a vacuum tube invented by Lee De Forest.
2) It has three elements a)cathode K , b)Grid G and c) Plate(p) Cathode may be directly or indirectly heated type. It is surrounded by an open mesh of wires of nikel or iron cylinder acting as plate. The separating between grid and plate is more than that of grid and cathode. These elements are enclosed in a vacuum tube whose inner surface is coated with an absorbing material called getter, which absorbs the gases produced in a tube. The purpose of grid is to control the flow of electrons from cathode to plate. A small change in grid potential shows large changes in plate current. The potential on grid can be positive or negative w.r.t. cathode. The potential of plate is more than that of grid. The variation of plate potential affects the plate current.
